Between Ego and Self-defense

Image
I'm suddenly in a position that makes me ask about "Is it ego or just self-defense?" Then I try to find the answer. First, let's just think deeper about the main situation. Am I in the situation that I need to prove myself, or am I just trying to set the exact boundaries? The more I think about it, the more I understand the difference between those two things. Ego and self-defense can be the source of misunderstanding in certain situations. Ego refers to our sense of self-importance, identity, or kind of 'self-worth' things. It could be the part of ourselves that seeks validation and recognition. Our behaviors that are driven by ego often come from pride, insecurity, and desire to elevate our self-image. On the other side, self-defense is more like an action to protect ourselves either physically or emotionally from external harm or threats. Actions that we do as self-defense are driven by our need for safety, justice, or maintaining the boundaries. But we can...

Just You Do You, Could You?

Image
I’ve noticed that lately people are too busy to look at other people’s lives. Throw the comment that they called “just in my opinion” things, but we have to know that those kind of unecessary opinions are useless unless someone is asking it from you. I sometimes feel bad seeing how someone’s face simply flips into disappointment after hearing others’s statements. I’m sure everyone knows the basic theoretical things like “everyone has their own point of view,” but unfortunately not everyone is mature enough to apply them. Just you do you, could you? It doesn’t mean you strictly can’t give your opinion or comment on things, but be aware of the moment and place!  At some point, you might need to bring up things that you are concerned about. So, let me tell you a few moments that you need to be careful about your words. 1. When someone trusts you to hear about their personal matter We have to know that sometimes people just need us as a listener. When someone shares their personal ma...

Rediscovering Joy with Dopamine Detox

Image
The world today is one of speed and hyperconnectivity. At any given moment in time, our brain is being triggered to be in a stirred-up state. Social media notifications, streaming platforms, and other instant entertainment options constantly fire dopamine hits at our fingertips. In fact, they are more likely to lead to hyperstimulation, anxiety, and the inability to derive pleasure from less intense, more fulfilling experiences. This is followed by a so-called dopamine detox. Well, I have written an explanation of dopamine detox before. And now, let me just suggest how to rediscover joy with dopamine detox. It could create a feeling of peaceful ambience and clarity of mind. So here are a few things that we could do: 1. Choose a comfort location: Look, listen, and smell around! Choose a comfortable setting for a breathtaking place. It could be a park close to our home, a path through the bush, a beach, a space in our home, or any location where we can get in touch with nature. We obvio...

Why Do We Feel Unproductive Even When We're Busy?

Image
Feeling unproductive in the middle of bustles is a common paradox that we face in both our personal and professional lives. This kind of vibe is mostly caused by a combination of psychological and emotional factors.  We need to find the reasons why we feel unproductive and connect them with the concept of finding joy in what we do, so we can navigate this kind of paradox effectively and fulfill our sense of satisfaction. And the reasons could be as follows, so now let's identify ourselves! That's why we need to identify and filter the kinds of tasks that are in line with our personal or professional goals. This action can ensure that the work we do really contributes to our overall sense of purpose and fulfillment. We'...

The Beginning of My Last Twenties

Image
I was a bit surprised to realize that I'm turning 29 this year. Honestly, the number of my age has been on my mind since the beginning of 2024. It seems like, Am I mature enough to get this number? And of course, there are a lot of things that scream loudly in my mind. Those things are actually my pile of worries from the last few months of 2023, like: I've been greedy, craving a lot of things while I lack energy. I have to set back several things instead of repeating the failure. Then, I just have to do things that I can afford without worrying about unrealistic things. I know those kinds of thoughts shouldn't be right or wrong, and I have to be honest to say that I felt a bit of relief at the time I said, "Let's stop here!". I decided to give up on several things back then. Few days ago, I read a book at the coffee shop, and the book coincidentally made me feel like God didn't want to see me give up easily. I really take a deep breath and freeze for a wh...

How I Accept Myself As An Introvert

Image
I once thought that being an introvert was a disadvantage, especially in a society that glorifies extroverts more often. At that time, I pushed myself to pretend that I'm an extrovert, like interacting more with people even though I regret it right after a minute since it feels awkward, trying to be a social butterfly, etc. But as time goes by, it drained me as well. I end up self-blaming for not being an extrovert. At this point, I think it's important to recognize that introverts have unique strengths. And I slowly recognize some advantages of being an introvert. In a noisy world, introverts have the capacity to filter out distractions and focus on what truly matters to them. Introverts also tend to be highly observant, taking in details that might go unnoticed by others. This attention to detail allows introverts to uncover insights and make connections that can lead to innovative ideas and solutions. It might be the reason why many introverts have an interest in creative th...
